Safe & vault service in Wichita, KS
Safes are in our name and they've been in our shop since 1903. Central Key & Safe sells them, delivers them, installs them, services them, and opens them when the combination is long gone, and wherever possible we open a safe without hurting it.

Locked out of your own safe?
It happens far more than people expect. Inherited safes with no combination, dead batteries on electronic keypads, dials that drift out of true after forty years, boards that simply fail. None of it means what's inside is gone.
We open safes for a living, and we do it with the goal of preserving the safe. Manipulation and known-recovery methods come first. Drilling is a last resort, and when it's genuinely necessary we drill in a place designed to be repaired, then repair it and put the safe back in service.
Small safes can come to the shop. For the big ones, we come to you.
Buying a safe: what actually matters
Three things, in this order. Fire rating and how long it holds: documents and drives need different protection than cash. Burglary rating: a cheap "fire safe" from a big-box store resists a determined person for about as long as it takes to carry it out the door. Anchoring: an unanchored safe under 500 pounds is a lockbox with a handle on it.

Common questions about safes
Can you open an inherited safe with no combination?
Almost always. Depending on the safe we can recover or reset the combination, manipulate the lock open, or drill and repair. We quote you before we touch it, and we'll ask for proof the safe is yours.
My electronic safe lock is dead. Is what's inside stuck?
No. Dead keypads and failed circuit boards are routine for us. We can usually open the safe and replace the lock with a better one on the same visit.
Will opening it destroy the safe?
Usually not. Most openings leave the safe fully usable, and even when drilling is required we repair the hole and restore the safe to service. We'll tell you upfront which category your safe falls into.
Can you change my safe's combination?
Yes, on both dial and electronic locks, and it's a good idea after buying a used safe or after anyone with the combination leaves the business.
Do you move safes?
We deliver and install the safes we sell, including anchoring. For moving an existing heavy safe, call and describe it: stairs, weight, and access decide whether it's a job for us or for a rigging crew.
What size safe do I need?
Bigger than you think, is the honest answer. Nearly everyone fills theirs faster than expected. Bring a list of what's going in it and we'll size it with you.
